Djarum Foundation Strengthens the Resilience of Coffee Farmers' Ecosystem on the Muria Slope Thru the Planting of 60,321 Tree Seedlings

The conversion of the One Action One Tree digital movement has produced 60,321 Multipurpose Tree Species (MPTS) seedlings for greening in the Muria foothills area, Kudus Regency.

The ongoing commitment of the Djarum Foundation's Environmental Service (BLDF) to environmental preservation is once again realized thru the planting of 60,321 multipurpose tree species (MPTS) seedlings resulting from the conversion of the One Action One Tree (OAOT) 2026 digital movement. The seedlings collected from the OAOT movement over the past two months will be planted gradually in the Muria foothills area, Kudus Regency.

In the sixth year of the #OAOT event, 650 participants contributed to environmental care thru a series of activities such as running, cycling, and social media engagement. From this participation, the cumulative achievement of cycling activities reached 67,941 kilometers, running activities reached a distance of 31,051 kilometers, and 525 social media contents were published on Instagram.

#OAOT itself is an annual activity from Siap Sadar Lingkungan (Siap Darling) aimed at inviting the younger generation to take real actions in caring for the environment together. Working together with farmer groups to care for the seedlings planted in the area around the slopes of Mount Muria, Kudus Regency, this initiative aims to provide long-term economic benefits for the community and ecological benefits for the environment.

The planting resulting from this activity was part of the closing ceremony series of #OAOT 2026 held at the Japan Village Hall, Kudus Regency. Thru the OAOT initiative, BLDF promotes an environmental conservation approach integrated with local economic empowerment. Working together with Muria Coffee farmers, tree seedlings are nurtured until they provide economic value, so this initiative not only contributes to the restoration of the Muria slope ecosystem but also opens up sustainable livelihood opportunities for local farmers.

Director – Communications Djarum Foundation Mutiara Diah Asmara conveyed that OAOT is designed to align the lifestyle of the younger generation with tangible environmental conservation actions. "OAOT is based on the belief that simple actions carried out consistently and collectively can have a sustainable impact. Thru OAOT, we want to encourage the younger generation to actively engage in environmental movements that not only have ecological impacts but also provide social and economic benefits to the community," said Mutiara.

Mutiara added that BLDF's support does not stop at providing tree seedlings. "Therefore, we also complement this program with post-harvest coffee processing training, manual brew practices, and creative marketing sessions for coffee thru social media." We take this approach to support the vision of the Muria Coffee farmers in introducing Muria Coffee to a wider audience, so that environmental preservation efforts can go hand in hand with strengthening the local economy," Mutiara continued.

The Muria slope area is known as a strategic region with important ecological functions as a water catchment area and an ecosystem buffer. According to the Ministry of Forestry, the agroforestry system of Muria Coffee developed by the local community plays a role in maintaining environmental balance, reducing the risk of erosion, and supporting the sustainability of coffee farmers' livelihoods.

From the government's perspective, this cross-party collaboration has received appreciation. The Ministry of Forestry views the synergy between BLDF, local communities, and conservation activists as an approach aligned with the government's commitment to promoting community-based sustainable forest management.

Head of the Regional I Section of Social Forestry Yogyakarta, Ministry of Forestry, Ayi Firdaus Maturidy, in his speech emphasized that active community involvement is a key element in national policy. "Mount Muria has roles in ecology and economy, but it requires collaboration from various parties. Therefore, the roles of partners, including the Djarum Foundation, can be sustained." Collaborative initiatives like those carried out on the slopes of Muria also show that when society, communities, and the private sector move together, conservation efforts can go hand in hand with the improvement of welfare," said Ayi.

That commitment aligns with the community-based conservation initiative led by the Chairman of the Muria Conservation Activists Foundation (PEKA Muria), Teguh Budi Wiyono. Since 2021, Teguh, along with 20 volunteers and coffee farmers, has consistently planted and cared for trees in the Muria foothills, with support in seed provision from BLDF. "Initially, we were concerned about the condition of Muria, especially around the springs that were becoming exposed and vulnerable." From there, we started planting together with the residents and volunteers. Slowly, but regularly," said Teguh.

Teguh added that support from various parties strengthens the movement initiated by the community. "The seedling assistance from BLDF greatly helps us expand planting." "The hope is that these trees not only protect the environment but also provide economic value to the farmers, so that Muria remains sustainable and continues to thrive," said Teguh.

Meanwhile, the representative of the top leaderboard student #OAOT running category, Muhammad Rifa Febrian, believes that this movement provides space for the younger generation to make real contributions thru hobbies and daily activities, connecting with broader conservation efforts and directly impacting communities in the beneficiary areas.

In the future, this initiative is expected to continue being a space for cross-party collaboration in building collective awareness and concrete actions for the environment, while also preserving the Muria slope area as a sustainable source of life for future generations.
