Indonesia Dances is Back, Inviting the Public to #DanceintheMall in 12 Cities Across the Country

Indonesia Menari, a joint dance movement in shopping malls initiated by Indonesia Kaya, a presentation of Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, is back this year. This event invites the public to get closer to traditional Indonesian dance with a modern and enjoyable concept. In celebration of the 12th anniversary of Galeri Indonesia Kaya this year, Indonesia Menari will be present in 12 cities across Indonesia on October 12, 2025.

Indonesia Menari is an annual event by Indonesia Kaya that has been held since 2012. In 2019, Indonesia Menari was successfully held simultaneously in Jakarta, Bandung, Solo, Semarang, Medan, Makassar, and Palembang. This event had to be canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, but it was held virtually in 2021. After four years, dance enthusiasts can once again participate and witness the excitement of this event at INDONESIA MENARI 2025.

After being absent for several years, we received so many messages and questions about when Indonesia Menari would be held again. This incredible enthusiasm is a driving force for us to bring back this event in person and celebrate the 12th anniversary of Galeri Indonesia Kaya. "The return of Indonesia Menari is our way of appreciating the community's spirit and love for traditional dance art presented in a modern way," said Renitasari Adrian, Program Director of Indonesia Kaya.

Carrying the #MenaridiMall campaign, Indonesia Menari 2025 will take place in indoor shopping centers spread across 12 cities throughout Indonesia. This city network includes Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Medan, Makassar, Palembang, as well as new cities like Surabaya, Bali, Balikpapan, Manado, Bekasi, and Karawang. Participant registration for this program is divided into three phases. The first phase officially opened on August 12, 2025, and is specifically for participants in Bali, Balikpapan, Makassar, and Manado. Registration for the second phase begins on August 19, 2025, for participants in Medan, Palembang, Semarang, and Surabaya. Meanwhile, registration for participants in Jakarta, Bekasi, Karawang, and Bandung will open on August 26, 2025. Registration for Indonesia Menari 2025 is done thru www.indonesiakaya.com and is free of charge.

For this year, Indonesia Menari will be presented as a group dance consisting of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 people. There is no age limit for participants, as long as they can perfectly follow the choreography of Indonesia Menari 2025. All participants are required to perform a dance choreography specifically created for Indonesia Menari 2025 by Bathara Saverigadi Dewandoro, enriched with traditional Indonesian song arrangements by Alffy Rev. The choreography cannot be changed, but participants are allowed to develop the floor patterns and composition within the choreography.

"We hope this event will not only be a platform for dancers, but also inspire more people to love and preserve Indonesian dance culture. Thru a modern format and easily accessible locations like shopping malls, we want to show that traditional dance remains relevant and can be enjoyed by anyone," concluded Renita.
